Matara · Sri Lanka · 5°56′ N
A luxury villa on Sri Lanka's south coast,
a minute's walk from the waves.
01 · The house
Everything in one villa,
everything at its finest.
Villa Verner sits just off Beach Road in Matara, on Sri Lanka's southern coast, fifty metres from the beach: nine rooms across two villas among the coconut palms. The days here are unhurried — swim, surf, read, eat well.
The main villa has three floors: rooms 1–3 on the ground floor beside the courtyard pool, rooms 4, 5 and 7 on the second floor, and the restaurant and table tennis on the third.
Helpers keep the villa in good order and look after the guests' well-being. They are local people — ask them where to go, how to arrange transport, or anything else practical you need along the way.

The new villa, three rooms with terraces of their own.
Beside the main villa, a little way off, stands the newer house: rooms 8 to 10, each with its own terrace opening straight onto the lawn. Guests here share an outdoor kitchen with a fridge and a seating area, and sun loungers wait outside. The pool, the restaurant and the padel court are a few dozen steps away.

02 · The rooms
Nine rooms, no two alike.
The rooms are spread across two buildings — the main villa and the new villa beside it. Each room has a character of its own, furnished in local timber and finished in warm tones for a cosy, peaceful atmosphere. In season, breakfast and dinner are included; out of season you book the accommodation only, and meals are available at an extra charge.

03 · The restaurant
The restaurant, the whole third floor and a chef of its own.
On the table are seafood, fish and Sri Lankan dishes, as well as European-style chicken and meat dishes, vegetables and fresh salads — all cooked here from fresh ingredients, and the menu changes every day. The chef is in the house every day: breakfast is served from 8 to 10, dinner begins at 6. We are happy to cater to guests' wishes and children's preferences as well. In season, breakfast and dinner are included in the room rate; out of season the room is booked on its own and meals are available at an extra charge. Between meals the floor becomes a lounge — coffee, tea, fruit and the table tennis table are at hand all day.

04 · The padel court
Our own padel court, right beside the house.
Right beside the house is a panoramic padel court, floodlit so you can play after sunset too. Courtside there are a shower and WC, a roofed seating area, free WiFi and a fridge of cold water; rackets and balls are on site. Villa guests reach the court straight through the courtyard and play at a special rate; court time can also be booked online.

05 · The coast
The beach at the end of the road
Matara’s coastline begins just fifty metres from the gate: swim with sea turtles before the heat of the day sets in, walk along the reef at low tide, or simply do absolutely nothing. Surf lessons at nearby Polhena Beach are a five-minute walk away, whale-watching boats depart from Mirissa, half an hour to the west, and Galle Fort makes for a perfect afternoon outing.
